Jue Xie
Director of the Blood Transfusion Department
Dr. Xie has interest in immunohematology, blood management, clinical test diagnostics, clinical blood transfusion, and autoimmune diseases such as immune thrombocytopenia (ITP)
The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, conducts cutting-edge research to improve quality patient care and advance the science of medicine. From clinical and translational research to basic science, doctors and researchers work together under the leadership of Members of the Chinese National Academy of Engineering, National Distinguished Young Scholars, etc. The needs of patients drive medical staff forward in the research of diagnostics and therapeutics to answer the unsolved questions in the history of medicine and provide patients with world class health care.
This project mainly targets medical staff and medical students from overseas, including but not limited to relevant professionals in the blood transfusion department, clinicians, and other medical practitioners interested in blood transfusion medicine. We welcome overseas talents with basic medical knowledge background and who hope to receive professional clinical training in China's top medical institutions and improve their professional skills in the field of blood transfusion to participate in this project. Through the training, they will have the opportunity to have a deep understanding of the advanced technology and experience of the Blood Transfusion Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University Medical College, and add an important contribution to their future career.
1. FAHZU is among the first National Demonstration Centers for Clinical Teaching and Training, the National Demonstration Base for Standardized Residency Training, the founding member of “China Elite Teaching Hospital Alliance” and Vice-chair of Clinical Practice Education Union of Hospitals Affiliated to Universities.
2. FAHZU has 1 National Teaching Team, 2 National-level High-quality Sharing Courses, 1 National-level Outstanding Open Video Course and 23 National Official Textbooks with FAHZUers as editors or associate editors.

4. The Department of Blood Transfusion takes the lead in implementing the information closed-loop management of the whole process of clinical blood use in the province. The hospital has two blood irradiators and uses irradiation blood to prevent transfusion-related graft-versus-host disease (TA-GVHD).
5. The department practices the concept of precise blood transfusion. In order to prevent the same immune response caused by antigen antibody of Rh blood group system and ensure the safety of clinical blood use, since 2012, the department has pioneered the infusion of five antigen phenotypes among recipients, with the consistent infusion rate reaching 98%.
6. The hospital actively promotes blood donation without compensation, implements patient blood management in clinical practice, establishes a blood pre-use evaluation and efficacy evaluation mechanism after blood use, gives play the maximum role of each bag of blood, protects blood resources, and ensures the safety and medical quality of clinical blood use.
This project aims to provide a platform for overseas medical staff and medical students to deeply understand and learn the advanced blood transfusion technology and concepts in China through the professional technical training of the blood transfusion department. We are committed to cultivating talents in the field of blood transfusion with international vision and professional skills, promoting global exchanges and cooperation in blood transfusion medicine, and improving the overall level of global blood transfusion safety and quality.
The program provides a full-time, 2-week to 6-month training experience. In special circumstances, arrangements can be made for other lengths of training depending on your needs and interests.
