Traditional Chinese Medicine Pharmacy

Program Overview

With the increasing influence of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) in the international arena, more and more expatriates are interested in the unique theoretical system and therapeutic methods of TCM. This program aims to provide an opportunity for expatriate medical professionals to acquire in-depth professional knowledge, practical skills and culture of Chinese materia medica, to enhance the professionalism and practical ability of expatriate trainees in Chinese materia medica and to lay a foundation for you to apply your knowledge of Chinese materia medica in relevant international medical, research or educational institutions.

Program Highlights

1. Systematic understanding of the overall operation process and standardization of a modern TCM pharmacy.

2. In-depth study of the unique knowledge system of Chinese materia medica and related professional skills.

3. Practical teaching of characteristic programs in Chinese materia medica including TCM prescription-based processing and acupoint application, preparation process of traditional Chinese medicinal dosage forms, and identification of Chinese herbal medicines in the wild.

Training Objectives

Cultivate internationalized TCM professionals and promote internationalized exchanges and cooperation in TCM.

1. To enable foreign students to systematically understand the workflow and standardization of each department of our TCM pharmacy.

2. Cultivate foreign students to master the basic theoretical knowledge and practical skills of Chinese materia medica.

3. Help foreign trainees to deeply understand the cultural connotation of TCM and enhance your ability to disseminate and promote TCM culture in your own countries.

Program Duration

A 2-week to 3-month training mode is provided to meet the schedules and needs of different foreign participants. In special circumstances, arrangements can be made for other lengths of training depending on your needs and interests.

• Fellows: Have a professional background in pharmacy or medicine, able to conduct professional coursework and communication, have a strong interest in TCM, and aspire to engage in TCM-related work or research in your home country.

• Residents: Have a professional background in pharmacy or medicine, able to conduct professional coursework and communication, have a strong interest in TCM, and aspire to engage in TCM-related work or research in your home country.

• Students: Have a professional background in pharmacy or medicine, able to conduct professional coursework and communication, have a strong interest in TCM, and aspire to engage in TCM-related work or research in your home country.

Program Agenda

Take two weeks as an example:

First week

1. Introduction & welcome, program overview and objectives.

2. Department introduction: visiting working areas of our TCM pharmacy, understanding the functions, equipment and facilities as well as the workflow of each area, introducing the organizational structure and responsibilities of our staff.

3. Basic theory courses: Chinese materia medica, TCM Formulary, Dispensing of Chinese materia medica, Identification of Chinese materia medica, Processing of Chinese materia medica, Chinese materia medica pharmaceutics

 

Second week

Practical Skills Courses

1. Dispensing of TCM prescription

2. TCM prescription-based processing and acupoint application

3. Preparation process of traditional Chinese medicinal pills

4. Identification of Chinese herbal medicines in the wild
