Program Overview

The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine was founded in 1955. It currently has many sub-specialties such as Traditional Chinese Medicine Ward, Traditional Chinese Medicine Internal Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine Gynecology, Traditional Chinese Medicine Pediatrics, Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine Massage, and Traditional Chinese Medicine Traumatology. This project relies on the "National Flagship Hospital Construction Unit for Collaboration of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine","National General Hospital Traditional Chinese Medicine Work Demonstration Unit”, and the chairman unit of the Traditional Chinese Medicine Promotion Branch of the General Hospital of the Zhejiang Society of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It offers TCM syndrome differentiation and treatment, TCM acupuncture, and massage, ear acupuncture and other traditional Chinese medicine treatment training. The aim is to provide trainees with the opportunity to learn and apply the theory of internal and external TCM treatment. Through training, they can master various skills and apply them to clinical patients to improve their efficacy. At the same time, we will spread the culture of traditional Chinese medicine, promote international cooperation, and establish dialogue mechanisms and cooperation platforms through various channels such as enterprises in relevant countries, universities, and scientific research institutions. Enhance international influence and promote the integration of traditional Chinese medicine into the mainstream medical systems of more countries co-building the “Belt and Road”. The project targets international academic institutions and conducts in-depth exchanges with experts and scholars from academic institutions around the world. It also accepts participation from traditional Chinese medicine education and scientific research institutions, college students or scientific researchers with medical backgrounds.

Program Duration

The program provides a full-time, 2-week to 6-month training experience. In special circumstances, arrangements can be made for other lengths of training depending on your needs and interests.


Target Audience & Qualifications

• Fellows: Applicants must complete a residency program at an accredited institution

• Residents: Applicants must obtain the qualification of resident physician

Students: Applicants must have a good background in traditional Chinese medicine and be recommended by the school


Focus Areas & Skills

The training covers TCM wards, TCM internal medicine, TCM gynecology, TCM pediatrics, TCM acupuncture, TCM massage, TCM traumatology and other specialties. It also offers TCM oncology, TCM rheumatism and immunity, TCM fatty liver, TCM diabetes, TCM cardiovascular disease, TCM liver disease, Specialized in TCM spleen and stomach diseases, TCM sleep disorders, cervical spondylosis and other specialties. You can obtain dialectical treatment of traditional Chinese medicine, synergistic treatment of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, acupuncture, massage, cupping, auricular acupuncture and other traditional Chinese medicine treatment techniques.

Evaluation and Feedback

Each fellow is evaluated by each faculty member on the core competencies of medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and systems-based practice. Faculty members meet individually with fellows for verbal feedback and evaluation. For Syndrome Treatment, technical ability is assessed through specially designed case, patient, and semi-annual skills assessment programs. The clinical competency faculty committee provides an overall monthly evaluation of the fellow's clinical progress. After the training, each student can rate each teacher in a form and write down suggestions and impressions.
