Endocrinology - Diabetes Integrated Management

Program Overview

The Diabetes Integrated Management Program at FAHZU in Hangzhou provides a unique environment for exceptional candidates to pursue advanced training in diabetes.

During your training, you will acquire advanced capabilities in the multidisciplinary management of diabetes and gain extensive experience in both clinical practice and scientific research in this field.


Program Highlights

1. Integration of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Curriculum:

a) Design courses covering the theories, diagnostics, and treatment methods of diabetes in both traditional Chinese and Western medicine.

b) Through comparison and contrast, help them understand the strengths and limitations of both medical systems in diabetes management.


2. Multidisciplinary Diagnostic Workshops:

a) Design workshops that allow them to experience interdisciplinary teamwork, including physicians, nutritionists, exercise coaches, and psychological counselors.

b) Use simulated cases to let them play different roles within a team to jointly develop diabetes management plans.


3. Use of Technology and Innovative Tools:

a) Teach how to use the latest technological tools, such as mobile health applications and remote monitoring devices, to assist in diabetes management.

b) Discuss how these tools can help implement integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine treatment plans for diabetes.


4. Clinical Research Projects:

Offer opportunities for trainees to participate in research projects that integrate traditional Chinese and Western medicine approaches to diabetes.

Training Objectives

The program will provide trainees with a comprehensive and diverse learning platform, enabling them to gain an in-depth understanding and mastery of integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine in diabetes management. Furthermore, we aim to cultivate a strong foundation in clinical research for our trainees, ensuring their success in academic medicine careers, with an emphasis on diabetes.

Program Duration

The program provides a full-time, 2-week to 3-month training experience. In special circumstances, arrangements can be made for other lengths of training depending on your needs and interests.


Target Audience & Qualifications

• Fellows: Qualified applicants for the Diabetes Fellowship should have completed an internal medicine residency program at an accredited institution.

• Residents: To be eligible for the diabetes residency, you must have successfully completed a board-approved program in internal medicine.

 Students:

1. Must be a final-year medical student when you are scheduled to participate in the rotation. This means all your core / required clerkship rotations are complete at the time of the clinical elective.

2. Medical School Approval - Letter of good standing from the dean’s office of your medical school indicating you are in the final year with your expected graduation date, in good academic standing and meet all requirements to complete an elective for academic credit.

Program Agenda

Monday

1st Week: introduction & welcome, program overview and objectives.

Weekly: clinical rounds, complicated case study.

Weekly: journal club.


Tuesday

Weekly: outpatient observation.

Biweekly: mentor one-on-one training.

 

Wednesday

Weekly: inpatient observation, complicated case discussion.

 

Thursday

Weekly: outpatient observation in Department of TCM, MDT conference.

 

Friday

Weekly: Academic lecture, clinical rounds, special task training.

Last Week: wrap-up & reflection, participant presentations or discussion of key takeaways, feedback session. 


Evaluation and Feedback

After each rotation, each faculty member evaluates each trainee according to core competencies of patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism, and system-based practice. Faculty members meet with trainees individually for verbal feedback and evaluation.
