Dr. Jianhua Liu, former department head, received his Bachelor, master, and PhD degree from Zhejiang University in 1982, 1989, and 1998, respectively. Since 1983, he has been a faculty member as a Teaching Assistant (1983-1990), Lecturer (1990-1995), Associate Professor (1995-2001) and Full Professor (2001-now) in Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China. Currently, he is the Professor and Chairman of Stomatology Education Committee, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. He received further training in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Gifu University Hospital, Gifu, Japan in 1989, as well as the Department of Plastic Surgery and Oral Maxillofacial Surgery in Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA in 1999. He is also an expert reviewer and panellist for several committees including: National Natural Science Foundation in China (2006), Science and Technology Award of Ministry of Education (2008), Disabled Appraisal Committee of Zhejiang Public Security Department (2010), Health Bureau of Zhejiang Province (2012). He has published more than 100 articles in Journal of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, International Journal of Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, Clinical Anatomy, British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and other well-known international journals. He is the editor of several journals including Biomed Research International, China Reparative and Reconstruction Surgery, Stomatology and the executive editor of China Tissue Engineering Research. He is also the specialist reviewer for multiple journals such as the Chinese Journal of Stomatology, Journal of Central South University, Journal of Zhejiang University (English Version), Journal of Stomatology, Journal of Chinese Clinician, Journal of Zhejiang Medicine and Journal of Chinese Tissue Engineering Research.

He has been engaged in clinical work for more than 30 years. He is proficient in many major surgeries including oral maxillofacial oncological surgery, orthognathic surgery, facial deformity correction, cleft lip and cleft palate repair, etc.
