Dr. WANG has dedicated 40 years to clinical practice, research, and teaching in stomatology, with a focus on fundamental and clinical studies of maxillofacial reconstruction for composite tissue defects. He pioneered the application of digital technology for dental and maxillofacial tissue repair. Domestically and internationally, he was among the first to perform innovative techniques such as the sternocleidomastoid flap and the bilayered, folded fibular flap, and he established a novel, precise, and highly efficient treatment modality for patients with composite tissue defects resulting from maxillofacial tumours or trauma. He led research and development on novel biomimetic dental implant systems for biomaterial interface modification, independently achieving research and development (R&D) and iterative upgrades to high-end implant systems, thereby overcoming a domestic bottleneck in high-end medical devices. He has undertaken over 20 major research projects, including those funded by the National Key Clinical Speciality and the International Cooperation and Exchange Fund of the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

He has produced more than 160 high-quality papers, obtained over 20 authorized patents, and authored 7 monographs. Authorities have recognized his contributions with 10 provincial/ministerial-level awards, and he has received honors such as "Zhejiang University Outstanding Doctor" and "Zhejiang Province’s Outstanding Doctor." Under his mentorship, 8 individuals became Provincial Medical Innovation Talents, and 23 attained senior professional titles. He supervised 32 doctoral and postdoctoral researchers and guided 68 master's students to completion.

He led his team to tackle formidable challenges. He oversaw the establishment of the world's largest single-site dental medical center, founded the Zhejiang University Institute of Stomatology, and played a key role in creating a Provincial Key Laboratory of Stomatology. In recent years, these efforts have yielded significant breakthroughs in the discipline's standing both domestically and internationally. As a result, its influence and reputation have been substantially elevated.
