The Department of Vascular Surgery of The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine，founded in 1989， is one of the first domestic independent vascular surgery departments. Prof. Pan Song ling, prof. Wang Zhong Gao and Prof. Li Ming were the first three directors. Open surgery was the major treatment for vascular patients at the beginning, such as varicose vein or abdominal aortic aneurysm. Accompany by the rapid development of intervention technique, endovascular therapy was gradually regarded as the preferred treatment. Currently, under the leadership of the Director, Prof. Zhang Hong Kun, FAHZU Vascular Surgery Department has developed to the medical center of vascular disease in Zhejiang Province and one of the top vascular surgery divisions in China.

At present, vascular division owned 33 in-patient beds, 1 hybrid operation room, 2 intervention operation room, 1 vascular non-invasive examine center. More than 2000 patients received endovascular and surgical treatment for aortic dissection, aortic aneurysm, arteriosclerosis obliterans, carotid stenosis, visceral arterial dissection, deep venous thrombosis or varicose vein every year. The Director, Prof. Zhang Hong Kun, is currently member of the Vascular Surgery Committee of the Chinese Medical Association Surgery Branch, Member of the Vascular Surgery Professional Committee of the Chinese Physician Association Surgeon Branch, Chairman of the Zhejiang Vascular Surgery Branch of the Zhejiang Medical Association, Chairman of the Zhejiang Vascular Surgery Professional Committee of the Zhejiang Medical Physician Association, Chairman of the Professional Committee of Vascular Diseases of Zhejiang Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Association, Deputy Chairman of the Interventional Medicine Branch of Zhejiang Medical Association.
