Urology

Overview

Founded in 1952, the FAHZU Urology Department is one of the earliest founded urology departments in China and largest centers in Zhejiang Province. In terms of overall strength, it is ranked 8th in China. It is also the National Key Clinical Specialty, Training Center of The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Surgeons of HongKong, and also a Training Center of Societe Internationale d'Urologie (SIU) as well. Our department is composed of 7 wards including 269 beds. There are 56 multiple subspecialty trained urologists, who have received additional training in specialized surgical techniques.

With more than 400, 000 outpatients and 9, 000 inpatients annually, we are trusted by patients throughout the whole country. Our urologists and researchers have also published multiple articles in journals including European Urology, Cancer Research and Urology.

The FAHZU Urology Department has advanced equipment. The cystoscopy room was established in 1962, equipped with an X-ray machine. Since the 1980s, advanced instruments and equipment have been imported, including minimally invasive percutaneous nephroscopes, laparoscopes, transurethral resection equipment, ureteroscope, holmium laser, pneumatic ballistic lithotripsy device, electronic cystoscope, extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy machine, urodynamic examination, biofeedback and pelvic floor electrical stimulation treatment instrument, etc. The male family planning laboratory was established in 1975, the urology BUS room was established in 1984, and the urology molecular lab was established in 1994. In 2014, the Da Vinci robot system was introduced and the first urological robotic surgery was carried out in the province.


Our Team

Our department consists of more than 56 surgeons and scientists, many of whom have gained national and international recognition for their clinical and research efforts. Our faculty members of excellence includes 5 professors, 17 senior physicians, 19 associate senior physicians, and one of the faculty member has gained the MRCS certificate of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburg. We are united by a common purpose: seeking new treatments and cures that will reduce and ultimately eliminate the devastating impact of urological diseases. 


Treatments and Services

Our diagnosis and treatment of difficult and complicated diseases in urology is unique in China. After decades of development, it has accumulated precious experience in the following aspects and has developed innovatively.

We provide the most advanced diagnosis and treatments for conditions including but not limited to:

1. Prostatic disease

3. Robot assisted laparoscopic surgery

4. Urolithiasis

5. Andrology

6. Pelvic floor and urethral disease


Research & Innovation

The FAHZU Urology Department has strong scientific research capabilities and numerous achievements. The department has undertaken more than 100 projects, including 863 project, National 11th Five-Year Science and Technology Support Projects, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Key Projects of Zhejiang Natural Science Foundation, Major Scientific Research Projects of Zhejiang Science and Technology Department and Department of Health item. 12 national patents were obtained. Participated or joined as editor-in chief in editing more than 20 monographs. More than 400 papers have been published in domestic and foreign journals.
