Introduction

FAHZU Radiology Department was established in 1947. The professional scope of radiology department includes four parts: general radiology (digital radiography, computed radiography, mammography, barium radiography, etc.), computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and interventional radiology. The department is the major base for medical treatment, teaching and scientific research of medical imaging in Zhejiang Province. It is also the provincial key medical disciplines and the authorized site for master's and doctor's degrees in medical imaging.

The department has advanced equipment including four sets of 3.0T MRI, five 1.5T MRI, two DSAs, one GE revolution spectrum CT, three 256 slice spiral CT, six 64 slice spiral CT, one 62 slice spiral CT, four 16 slice spiral CT, seven digital radiology, two full-field digital mammography machines and two digital gastrointestinal machines. The Picture archiving and communication systems/ Radiography Information System (PACS / RIS) with world-class quality makes the daily work of radiology department run efficiently with full digitalization and full network.

There are more than 200 medical personnels in the Department, including 6 professors and senior doctors, 10 associate senior attending doctors, 28 attending doctors, 3 associate senior technicians, 1 doctoral supervisor and 5 master’s supervisors. At present, more than 20 people in the Department have served as members in Chinese society of Radiology and its subgroup and other professional groups, and in the professional committee of the National Association of physicians, or served as  standing committee and editorial board for the Chinese Journal of Radiology and other mainstream imaging journals. 

After long term efforts, the radiology department has acquiring a high level and reputation in the domestic medical imaging field. The professional team has accumulating rich experience of imaging diagnosis in various systems, especially in the field of abdominal diseases, which has obtaining leading level in China. Diagnostic group is divided to four sub-groups: skeletal-neurotic group, cardio-thoracic group, abdominal group and interventional group. Interventional therapy includes carotid artery stent implantation, transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) for liver cancer, emergency vascular embolization for acute massive hemorrhage and biopsy for lung cancer. The department also focuses on the development and application of advanced technology of CT and MRI, as well as the research of molecular imaging and the application of artificial intelligence in medical imaging.

Currently, the department is undertaking 9 projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China or Ministry of National Science and Technology. In addition, the department is undertaking more than 10 major, key and general projects of Zhejiang Natural Science Fundation and Provincial Science and Technology Department.  In the past three years, more than 40 papers have been published including 20 SCI papers. 

The department won second award in the science and technology progress award of Health Department of Zhejiang Province.
