SUPPORTING XINJIANG AND WUHAN, A HERO IN HARM'S WAY
CHEN Jun is assistant to the president of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University Shool of Medicine, and the President and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the First Division Hospital of Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. He has devoted himself into the assistance program for less developed hospitals and won numerous national awards. In 2018, Dr. Chen voluntarily signed up for medical aid work in Xinjiang and his hard work brought him the title of "The 9th Batch of Outstanding Cadres and Talents from Provinces and Cities to Assist Xinjiang" by Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, and a merit record.
On February 13th, responding to the call from Wuhan front-line, Dr. Chen volunteered to join the FAHZU medical team to assist Cancer Center of Wuhan Union Hospital as temporary Branch Secretary. Speaking of his decision, Dr. CHEN was quite poised, "There are some things awaiting our devotion and sacrifice. As a party member and a medical worker, it is my responsibility to spare no effort to cure diseases and save lives. "
Though quite determined to heading for Wuhan, Dr. CHEN is becoming apprehensive thinking of his parents before he chose to hide the truth among them. He told his parents he was going to Xinjiang.
Realizing her husband's determination of going to the battlefield, Dr. CHEN's wife gave him full support in his decision. CHEN's wife, FENG Zhiying, Director of the Pain Management Department of FAHZU, also submitted petition for going to Wuhan. "I'm an experienced party member and I want to do my own contribution." However, with humanistic care for employees, the Party Committee of FAHZU will not send dual career couples to front-line at the same time. Dr. FENG failed to persuade her husband, "I’m more than willing to go, but he is more determined than I am."
The morning of February 14th had witnessed the departure of Dr. CHEN after his bidding farewell to his wife and doctor.
The Branch CHEN led played a pivotal role in morale enhancement and humanistic caring for front-line medical workers.
The difficult days in the isolation ward could not stop them from feeling warm. In the front-line of Wuhan, with severe epidemic situation, the mood of teammates sometimes fluctuated. Dr. CHEN led a team to carry out heart-to-heart talk with medical workers, paying close attention to the psychological changes of each team member to relieve the pressure. The Branch had become an important channel for medical workers to exchange ideas, gather consensus and solve problems.
At present, 72 patients with newly diagnosed COVID-19 have been admitted to the intensive care unit taken over by FAHZU. As of March 13, 47 patients have been discharged smoothly.
