To deepen medical exchanges between mainland China and Hong Kong, on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Hong Kong Medical Association(HKMA), a 13-member delegation led by Dr. Chi Man Cheng, President of HKMA, visited The First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine (FAHZU) on May 22The delegation was accompanied by officials from the National Health Commission and Health Commission of Zhejiang Province, including WANG Xiaoqin and CHEN Zhengfang. YU Chaohui, Vice President of FAHZU warmly received the guests, with representatives from administrative departments and clinical units participating in the exchange.

Established in 1920, HKMA is Hong Kong’s largest medical organization with over 13,000 members, dedicated to advancing public health through medical education and policy advocacy. During the meeting, Prof. YU highlighted FAHZU’s achievements in disciplines such as scientific innovation, smart healthcare, and international cooperation. Dr. Cheng praised FAHZU’s breakthroughs in medical technology and AI-driven diagnostics. Pierre Chan, Vice President of HKMA remarked:“FAHZU’s pioneering work in smart healthcare offers valuable insights for Hong Kong’s digital health development.”

The delegation toured FAHZU’s cutting-edge facilities, including the International Healthcare Center, smart logistics systems, and ICU, lauding the hospital’s patient-centric care model and operational efficiency.

FAHZU has been a key practitioner of Zhejiang-Hong Kong medical cooperation. It has established multiple joint research centers with institutions including the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, etc. in areas like infectious diseases, liver transplantation, liver diseases and digestive diseases. Both sides hosted numerous talent exchange programs, fostering mutual learning. Over the years, FAHZU has treated dozens of Hong Kong patients with relapsed/refractory hematological malignancies, cases widely reported by Hong Kong media like Wen Wei Po and Ta Kung Pao, and acknowledged by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai of HKSAR. Notably, In April this year, John Lee Ka-chiu, Chief Executive of Hong Kong visited FAHZU to gain insights into its medical tech innovations in treating major complex diseases, as well as leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) to empower precision clinical diagnostics.

This visit marks a significant step in strengthening ties between FAHZU and HKMA, with both parties committed to advancing talent cultivation and healthcare innovation. As cross-regional collaboration gains momentum, the partnership is poised to elevate healthcare standards and enhance well-being for communities on both sides.
