FAHZU Nursing Management Team Visits Mayo Clinic

2025-10-23

To learn from one of the world's best hospitals and improve our nursing care, four head nurses from FAHZU recently visited Mayo Clinic for two weeks. We were deeply impressed by their efficient, patient-friendly, and technology-driven nursing system.

1.    A nursing model focused on building strong patient-nurse relationships.

This model combines caring theories to create a complete nursing system. It values accountability, professional standards, evidence-based practice, and continuous care. The approach emphasizes that strong relationships between nurses and patients, along with family involvement, are key to good care. Patients are treated as whole people, not just their illnesses. The model also stresses teamwork across different medical specialties to provide well-rounded, high-quality, patient-centered care.

2.    Team collaboration ensures continuous and personalized care.

The teamwork in specialized wards is impressive. Doctors, nurses, dietitians, therapists, and case managers work closely together from the moment a patient arrives. They create treatment plans together and follow them throughout the hospital stay. Case managers oversee the entire care plan, making sure patients get clear instructions when leaving and smooth transitions to home or community care. This team approach keeps care consistent, coordinated, and personalized, which greatly reduces the chance of patients needing to return to the hospital.

3.    Structured nurse training builds skilled professionals.

Mayo Clinic has well-designed training programs that help new nurses learn essential skills step by step. These organized education and training systems provide ongoing support, helping nurses grow and handle various challenges. This ensures high-quality nursing care that can be repeated, passed on, and continuously improved.

4.    Technology breaks down barriers of time and distance.

The electronic ICU (e-ICU) and virtual nursing system create a monitoring and care network that goes beyond traditional hospital wards. At e-ICU centers, experienced nurses use remote technology and AI to analyze data in real-time and send alerts to help on-site teams make better decisions. This improves the accuracy and safety of intensive care. The virtual nursing system handles tasks like admission guidance, discharge planning, and coordination between facilities remotely, greatly expanding the reach of nursing services.

This visit to Mayo Clinic opened our eyes and encouraged valuable discussions. It created a connection between the FAHZU and Mayo Clinic. Going forward, our team will carefully review what we learned and adapt these ideas to fit our hospital's needs. We will turn these insights into practical plans to improve our nursing services and advance our nursing programs.
