Overview

FAHZU Neurosurgery Department is one of the State Key Clinical Specialties, one of the first national training bases for neurosurgical specialists in China and one of the first national training base for resident neurosurgeons certificated by National Health Commission. FAHZU Neurosurgery Department has also been nominated as the “best national neurosurgery specialty” by the Fudan university hospital ranking.

The Neurosurgery Department comprises 4 wards with a total bed number of 169, and a new ward with 50 beds is opening soon by the end of 2020. The annual outpatient quantity is over 25000, and the annual emergency patient quantity is over 3000. More than 4000 patients are hospitalized and around 3500 operations were performed per year.

The Neurosurgery Department has integrated neurosurgical subspecialties and research centers that provide comprehensive and world-class health care for patients who need neurosurgical treatment. Our top-class neurosurgeons and researchers are also leading various scientific projects and have published a large number of articles on renowned journals including Nature, Lancet Neurology, Neurology, Stroke, Cancer Research and Journal of Neurosurgery. 


Our Team

Currently FAHZU Neurosurgery has over 110 staffs, 48 among which are neurosurgeons including 1 professor, 10 attending neurosurgeons and 10 associate attending neurosurgeons. 100% of the neurosurgeons have their academic degree equal to or higher than master’s, and over 40% of the neurosurgeons has oversea study experience.

Research & Innovation

Our neurosurgery research center has an independent neurosurgery laboratory that carries out clinical, basic and translational research for the clinical treatment, molecular mechanism investigation and drug development in the field of neurovascular diseases, traumatic brain injury, neural stem cells transplantation and brain tumor. Based on these research and innovations we published large number of articles on renowned journals including Nature, Lancet neurology, Neurology, Stroke, Cancer Research and Journal of Neurosurgery.

We also led and participated in compiling many neurosurgery textbooks including "The atlas of neurosurgery operation technique", "The guidelines for clinical treatment of traumatic brain injury" and "Brain microsurgery" etc. We also obtained over 20 National Natural Science Fund Project, the Key Research & Development Project Of Zhejiang Province and numerous other provincial projects,

 

 


Education & Training

FAHZU Neurosurgery Department is one of the first resident/specialist training bases authenticated by the Ministry of Health of China, and also the standardized neurosurgery residency training base authenticated by neurosurgical section of Chinese Medical Doctor Association and the Ph.D/M.D awarding discipline of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Our department undertakes the training of specialist neurosurgeons, undergraduate students, graduate students and Ph.D candidates of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. Our department has been repeatedly rated as an outstanding teaching department of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. The center now has 3 doctoral supervisors, 10 master's supervisors. So far more than 100 graduate students and Ph.D candidates have received training in our center. The laboratory is equipped with operating microscope, high-speed grinding drill and cadaveric head training facilities. At present, we have carried out the training of micro-neurosurgery and skull base surgery.
