2020-04-24

The COVID-19 epidemic is getting more and more severe in the world. As of April 22nd of 2020, there are nearly 2.5 million confirmed cases and more than 170,000 deaths in the world. It is urgent to fight the epidemic together.

At the other side of the Pacific, Grenada, a North American country with a land area of only 344 square kilometers, has not been spared from the pandemic. Grenada is located at the southernmost tip of the windward islands in the eastern Caribbean, with a population of about 110,000. Up to now, Grenada has confirmed 12 new cases of COVID-19. After the outbreak, Grenada adopted strict epidemic prevention and control measures. Starting from March 16th, all schools have been closed for 2 weeks. Teachers have been working from home from March 18th. All domestic and international competitions and large-scale events such as Grenada Invitational Tournament have been suspended. And all travel of government officials have been cancelled. After the outbreak, Grenada approached the Chinese embassy for a long-distance connection with the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine to guide Grenada in its fight against the epidemic.

At 7:00 a.m. Beijing time on April 23rd, the rising sun has witnessed an on-line conference with Grenada at the International Telemedicine Center of FAHZU. Prof. Liang Tingbo, Chairman of FAHZU, Prof. Zheng Min, Vice President, Peng Bo, Deputy Director General of Department of Foreign Affairs of Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, and more than 20 experts of FAHZU were prepared early and sat in front of the camera. At the other side of the Pacific, at 19: 00 p.m. Grenada time on April 22nd, more than 20 medical workers from Grenada's Ministry of Health, Grenada General Hospital, etc., are still highly concentrated on listening to experts' experience.

At the start of the conference, Zhao Yongchen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Grenada, introduced the participants from both sides. Nickolas Steele, Minister of Health of Grenada, praised China's remarkable achievements in preventing and controlling the COVID-19 pneumonia and expressed his gratitude to FAHZU for its meticulous guidance on Grenada's fight against the epidemic. Mr. Peng Bo, also delivered a speech.

The clinical experts of FAHZU delivered patiently answers one by one and provided targeted suggestions according to the characteristics of Grenada's small population and few hospital beds.

FAHZU fights the pandemic in joint hands with the world. "FAHZU Experience" is widely spread overseas. From March 18th to April 7th, we have connected via video conference with 26 countries to deliver the experience of fighting against the epidemic. At the same time, seven experts from FAHZU joined the "China Anti-epidemic Medical Expert Group" and took supplies to Italy to help prevent and control the epidemic. FAHZU will continue to shoulder its mission and responsibility as a "national team" to fight against the epidemic together with the world and brave the storm.
