Department of Stomatology is the biggest clinical center of Stomatology in Zhejiang province. It is also home to the provincial center of diagnosis and treatment of oral and maxillofacial diseases, a branch of southern center of National Dental Implantation. It servers as one of the center for medical care, teaching, research and health consultation in East-China area. Now, it is the provincial key discipline of stomatology science. And its subspecialty--oral and maxillofacial surgery--a branch of the department, was rated state key clinical specialty in the year of 2011.
Since it was first established in 1947 by Pro Xiao Zhuoran, the department has made great progress over the last seven decades，especially after its rebuilding in 1982. This reputable department has faculty and staff of 70. It has 7 clinical subspecialties embedding with 3 research sub-units that cover the fields of basic science of stomatology, oral medicine, oral and maxillofacial surgery, prosthodontics, orthodontics, oral implantology and oral radiology. Accredited doctoral degree programs are offered in Clinical Science of Stomatology and Basic Science of Stomatology.. The department has taught more than 150 postgraduates and more than 25 Ph.D. candidates in recent years. Now, the department serves as the largest base for standardization training of residents and specialists in Zhejiang. At least 70 trainees study in the base simultaneously. It also hosts 3-5 national continuous medical education programs every year with more than 500 participants. Meanwhile, the department has established partnership with 37 hospitals all around the country. Many colleagues have acquired technical guidance through the alliance of oral and maxillofacial surgery hosted by the department since 2018.
The department’s main treatment center in Qingchun Campus has a 2000 square-meter clinical building which hosts 35 dental units and 37 in-patient beds, while other 20 dental units and 11 beds in the new opened Zhijiang section. The department annually treats about 155,000 outpatients (including emergency cases) and admits 1800 inpatients among whom about 1680 receive operations. The department is now equipped with 25-million-worth advanced medical instruments such as dental panoramic tomography, micro-power system for implantation, root canal endoscopy, ultrasonic osteotome, surgical navigation system.
The department follows the principle of "patient first", "satisfactory and standard service", "building up through science and technology". For the past 7 decades, the center has received such honors as cradleland of stomatology of Zhejiang and state key clinical specialty. The staff will continue to provide high quality services for the patient in Zhejiang province and surrounding area.
